Our most successful event to date!

Did you take part in Guernsey’s biggest winning opportunity of 2020? Because of our Island community, something very significant happened this summer.

The Big Summer Lottery 2020 went off like a rocket from day one. The sheer excitement and demand was unprecedented and we found ourselves with the painful job of turning many people away, having sold out all 12,000 tickets.

What was the end result?

This means an all-time RECORD amount was raised for Hope for a Child and other children’s causes… £380,000!

Wow. What a huge achievement. Take a moment and let that one sink in—this would simply not have been possible without everyone involved.

We are delighted to be able to share with you the name and photo of this year’s top 2 big winners below.

Whether you won a prize or not this year—your choice to buy a ticket is having a profoundly positive impact.

You are offering families living in Malawi a way out of the crippling snare of extreme poverty, so they can begin to thrive. Not only that, you are also supporting powerful children’s causes here in Guernsey.

Who won the top prize?

Congratulations to Paul and Vanessa Benstead for winning this years top prize of £130,000! This is what the winners had to say:

The Big Draw

The Big Summer Lottery draw took place on Saturday 26th September in the Market Buildings. thank you to everyone who joined us!

The results have been posted on our Facebook page, on our website (this page), printed in The Guernsey Press and aired live on Island FM.

Winners are only made public with consent.

We were thrilled to increase the prize fund yet again while holding the ticket price at £50.

2019 was a record year all round for The Big Summer Lottery—there was an unparalleled demand for tickets and a record amount of money raised. We are so thankful for the support from our Island. Were you involved?

Onward and upward! This year we kept the best of 2019, while stacking yet more delights to the top of the pile:

• The Big Prize INCREASED to £130,000!
• Our first ever opportunity to ditch petrol/diesel expenses once and for all with the second prize—the all new Mini Electric! (Chosen by YOU the Guernsey public in our island-wide poll)
• A voucher for an electric bike for our 4th prize, for the first time.
• Another first—we included something for your home in the prize list.
• The ticket price stayed the same—£50!

“I bought the ticket primarily because it was such a good cause and I wanted to contribute. I never dreamed that mine would be the winning ticket. I was astounded when I heard my number on the radio and realised I had actually won the top prize.

It was wonderful to win such a large amount but far more important is the fact that a substantial amount of cash was raised for children who really need help.”

“…I was in the middle of finding out my car battery was flat when I felt my phone ringing in my pocket. I was surprised to say the least! To use the old cliche I don’t usually win these sort of things so it was very exciting to win 3rd prize which was quite a significant win! My girlfriend and I are going to use the travel vouchers to spend a month exploring New Zealand in a camper van. Certainly makes a change from the budget holiday i’ve been doing in France for the last 10 years!”

The Causes

The Big Summer Lottery is Hope for a Child’s most important fundraising event of the year – it powers so much of what we are doing with families in Malawi. Thousands of very low income households are being enabled to stand on their own feet and meet their own needs because of your support.

We are also using some of the money raised through The Big Summer Lottery to support 5 charities working with children in Guernsey.

100% of the profits from ticket purchases are used to enable families to flourish and young lives to be turned around.

Whether you are an old hand or this is your first Big Summer Lottery draw, we want to say a huge thank you for your support.
