Hope Store is on a mission to supply Guernsey with the finest ethical home-ware from around the world, to create a win for the makers, a win for the planet and a win for our customers.

Having worked for many years to empower communities in Malawi through business, we have become captivated by the ingenuity and brilliance of people living in very difficult circumstances. 

The dream has long been bubbling to link these people and their products to communities closer to home.

This dream has taken the form of Hope Store, where every purchase directly benefits a family living in one of our partner countries, like Malawi, Ethiopia, Columbia and Mexico.

Job description

We are looking for a shop assistant to join our small, dedicated team — someone who is passionate about our customers, our products and the makers.

Your passion and energetic approach will create a great working atmosphere, team spirit, and exceptional experience that delights our customers. 

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver excellent customer service
  • Maintain outstanding store condition
  • Receive and unpack shipments
  • Arrange and label goods
  • Serving customers at checkout
  • Receiving customer feedback and inquiries
  • Providing advice and recommendations to customers
  • Tidying the store after hours

Requirements:

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • A strong interest in retail and artisan homeware
  • A passion for excellent customer service

Salary negotiable depending on experience.

Job description

We are looking for a store manager to join our small, dedicated team — someone who is passionate about our customers, our products and the makers.

Your passion and energetic approach will create a great working atmosphere, team spirit, and exceptional experience that delights our customers. 

Core responsibilities:

  • Deliver excellent customer service
  • Maintain outstanding store condition
  • Be motivated to meet sales objectives
  • Train and Mentor assistant staff
  • Promoting the store via social media
  • Work with our management team to create business strategies and prepare reports on buying trends, sales figures and sales forecasts
  • Ensure the shop complies with health and safety requirements
  • Work with our marketing team to create displays and plan promotions
  • Monitor inventory and place orders

Requirements: 

  • Minimum of 3 years retail experience, ideally in a managerial role
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Customer service orientated with knowledge of basic business management processes
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • A creative eye

Internship Positions Available

Are you finishing school or university and not exactly sure what to do next? Or maybe you’re just keen for some experience and a place to learn new skills.

If so, an internship at Hope for a Child could be just what you’re after.

Each year we take on up to 3 interns, who join a our busy, friendly team to get involved in a whole range of areas, such as:

  • Customer Service
  • Office Administration
  • Book Keeping
  • Sales
  • PR & Marketing
  • Charity Fundraising
  • International Development

Our interns are expected to have a go at a broad range of tasks, but we also help them to identify their strengths and passions and help them focus on those areas.

Our Promise

We expect interns to be positive and conscientious, and have an ‘anything is possible!’ attitude. In return for your hard work and commitment, we promise to provide an empowering and nurturing working environment and help you discover and develop your skills.

Our internships are unpaid positions. They are for a duration of 9-12 months. Hours are negotiable, however a commitment of at least 1 day a week is required.

Interns may be given the opportunity to join one of our team trips to our project sites in Malawi.
