Empower a Mother

The best way of helping children to rise from poverty and to have a better future is to help their parents, especially mothers to become financially secure.

A story…

Mary has 3 growing children. She owns a business selling pineapples out of a wheelbarrow. Although she works hard, her income is too little to support her family, let alone invest in a fruit stall or shop. Mary then heard about Hope for a Child training groups within the community to run Village Savings and Loans Groups, in effect, small village banks. The groups pool together their resources and lend to each other, allowing Mary to advance her business. Her children who were sick could see the doctor, school fees could be paid and food could be bought.

We believe in giving a hand up rather that a hand out.

Children’s lives change when whole communities rise out of poverty. A community with financial security can care for children with one or no parents. When a mother has access to basic financial services, she can create a good business. As the families’ income increases, her children can be fed, go to school, get medical treatment and be given clothes to wear.
