Since April 2010 HFaC have committed to provide the salaries for 15 VSLA facilitators and associated workers to create these new VSLA groups in Iganga.

Progress so far:

• Agreement completed with our key partner in Iganga (IDFA) and rollout schedule in place to develop VSLA groups throughout Iganga.
• 15 new facilitators were recruited and trained in April.
• Awareness meetings conducted in the 15 chosen sub-counties of Iganga.
• By the end of June 2010, 52 new VSLA groups have already been trained in VSLA. The groups are now learning how to save and learning how to start loaning to individuals within the groups.

Results so far (1st Quarter):

So far 52 groups have been trained and started, and they are now up and running with their own VSLA groups.

From these 52 groups then already £2,870 has been raised as cumulative savings. This is an excellent level of savings from very new groups. The savings will now only increase as individuals carry on contributing their savings and as these groups will now be taught how to successfully loan out to individuals within the groups, and so causing the savings to grow with the interest that will be earned.

Over the coming months the cumulative savings will grow significantly as new groups are formed and as the current groups continue to save and loan.
